"Dad, I can't go on," he said.

I told him to give Fengxia to me, but he wouldn't let me take her. Then after walking a few more steps he squatted down, saying, "Dad, my back's so sore I can barely take it."

That was because of his crying. He had cried so hard that he had hurt his back. When we got to Erxi's place, he put Fengxia down on the bed and sat on the edge of it gazing at her. Sitting there, Erxi's body looked like it had shriveled into a little ball. I couldn't look at them; just seeing their shadows on the wall was unbearable. Their looming shadows were dark and large. One was lying while the other looked like it was kneeling. Neither moved. The only things moving were Erxi's tears--I kept seeing those large black drops falling from one shadow to the other. I went into the kitchen to boil some water to warm up Erxi. By the time the water boiled and I'd brought it out, Erxi had dozed off--now they were both asleep.

~~~
Erxi never got over the loss of Fengxia. He was never a man of many words, but as soon as Fengxia died he spoke even less. Other people would say things to him, but he'd just grunt and that would be it; only when he saw me would he open up a bit. Kugen became the core of our lives. But the bigger he got the more he resembled Fengxia and the more he resembled Fengxia, the harder it was for us to look at him. Sometimes after Erxi looked at Kugen for a while, tears would begin to trickle down Erxi's face. As his father-in-law, I would try to console him: "It's been a while since Fengxia died. You should try to forget her if you can."
By then Kugen was three. He sat in his stool rocking back and forth. His eyes were wide open as he tried as hard as he could to understand what we were saying. Erxi tilted his head to the side in thought. After a while he finally said, "My memories of Fengxia are my only happiness."
coming back home is always a good feeling.
I just don't know why I really like to walk into those stores, because this time I left with a huge Pucca doll. I was having trouble on the bus and ferry because of all the bags I was carrying.
then it was just a week of going back to school. so disappointed that reading break ended so soon.
really, there isn't much that happened. went to eye appointment, no big change.
just stressed about the 360 project. but I think we should be fine. undergoing so many last minute changes.
got new cell phone. this month truly is big spendings.
the test that we did on friday was fine... but I'm sure I actually did pretty bad for this one. I had no idea what the hell I was trying to say.
the weekend was mostly working on the 360 project, but there was also Moxies. Jenn and Tristen in town. and we got a "red bomb" from that.
also, we got together to practice for speech contest. people must have thought we were weird when they passed us in the sub. we were singing pretty loud.
but the thing that pissed me off the most in the last week and a half is: I lost my favorite cell phone string. and the sad thing is, I won't be going to vancouver for a long time. and I didn't get it myself, so it's gonna be so hard to find one similar!
and I hate papers.
van trip so far
so took the three o'clock ferry to go to van... well, surprise! met stephie at the bus stop for the 70! that's good, because that means I didn't have to sit all alone on the ferry... even though she slept for most of the trip. it's just nice to have someone with you... I need emotional support... haha
so, because this time I didn't have the key to the place, I had to go to grandma's first. then chris and I went home. but he and mun were going to play badminton. so I went along, and played with them, wayne x2, sa姐, and these two guys wayne's cousin. then we went to 九記 to eat. didn't get home till pretty late. 2 o'clock before I went to bed. was so sore when I finally got up. think about how I felt when I remembered they made reservations last night to go again today...
well, today mun and I went to metro... but I was hoping to get more... but I guess the prices really held me back. in the end, didn't really get much stuff. I was really hoping to get a couple more thick hoodies/coats... and I was hoping to get some thin jackets too. but it's so hard to find what I want. I was debating on jeans, but I couldn't care less about that... and then without feeling satisfied, we rushed home to go play badminton. then we went to some place and ate dinner. then went home... my whole body right now is so sore. I wonder what I'll be doing tomorrow. it's really a disappointment, because this time I came over to spend money, and I'm not really spending... I should go sleep soon. hopefully I will convince mun to go to some mall again... and get more stuff.
so disappointed that my initial intentions of coming to vancouver were shattered. I wanted to hear colin's chinese rap, but since asuka can't come, I don't want to be all alone with just colin and angie... that would be too awkward. plus there were no 元宵 celebrations as I had hoped to go to... but what can I do?
ok, so this is a remake...
when I was little, this was sung by 陳慧嫺, and I liked it. she has a really good voice.
but I heard it on TV the other day... and at first, I was like, it sounds really familiar... and I seemed to like it even more... but it was sung by 衛詩.
not that I think 衛詩 has a better voice than 陳慧嫺, as a matter of fact, I think 陳慧嫺's voice is much better, especially with the really low notes...
I guess it's because I really like dance songs, so I prefer 衛詩's version. the only part I find iffy, is the english in it... personal preference, I guess, but the english makes me feel uneasy... if I had a choice, I would cut it out.
I still really like both versions of the song though! and I like both 衛詩 and 陳慧嫺!
staff party
so, I will start off with the fact that I didn't even see the sign up sheet for the party... it was put up the day after I worked and taken down the day just before I started working again... so that means the weekend... and if it weren't for the notice that said "we'll be closing early for the staff party..." I wouldn't have known until it was too late! Good thing, or I would have missed that free dinner...
~so, I did show up... and it was at The Keg... last one to arrive, because my ride... was getting a head start in drinking... and so, you know the story...
~got there and went upstairs... didn't have a good seat anywhere... in the end pulled up a seat with Sue, Kim, Kim, & Marilyn... starting talking about random stuff, then tried Sue's drink... too sour, so asked what to get instead... Kim said strawberry daiquiri... so she and Sue ordered for me... waiter asked, keg size? and Sue and Kim, agreed for me... then afterward, it turns out that it means double the alcohol...
~I had it, and then started getting really warm (and red) and my heart started beating really fast... but it may just be because I'm not used to drinking, and also that I drank it too fast... but, I knew what I was doing, so I thought I was sober...
~anyways... I thought, I might as well go visit other people at the other tables... so I did... went to where Ferrah was... and tried to sit in her chair with her... didn't fit, so sat on her lap instead... now, you know me (Sarah), and that's actually pretty normal, at parties I will do stuff like that...
~now apparently I was really red, and looked tired at the beginning... until I said I had a drink... so they all assumed I was drunk, because I normally don't do that kind of stuff at work... and so I was really 'letting loose'... but I guess no amount of explaining will make them understand... so after a few pictures, I left... and went back...
~I must say, the caesar salad was beautifully presented... and the flakes of parmesan was awesome... the prime rib was very good too... but I didn't like the fried onions... made me feel like throwing up (when mixed with the drink)... and the cheesecake was good too... the bottom was flaky and crumbly... I was amazed at the quality of the food... would definitely go back with friends...
~and then went and visited, this time, Frank and Lynn... talked about stuff... nothing too interesting... oh right... tried Alan's red wine... and before that, Mark's... maybe it was because I had the strawberry daiquiri... so the wine was quite bitter... but apparently Mark's bottle of wine cost him $70... and then Alan said that his kind was light already! so maybe it's just that I don't like red wine?
~so afterward, I got a ride home from Frank and Lynn... because although I could have walked home, it would take over half an hour... and I may fall over in the process... and end up sleeping on the streets?
~the funny parts come after, when I go back to work... man, do stories travel fast... everyone was talking about me... and coming up with nicknames... and facebook, pictures on facebook... even the people that didn't go to the party saw what I looked like... 'little miss tipsy', and 'Yo-yo'... I get the first one, but how did the second one come up? also, 'little strawberry daiquiri'...
~and then they started making up stuff: "don't you remember getting up on the table and dancing?" "don't you remember telling the server "you're cute, can I have your number?" "don't you remember the server said he's gonna come visit you some time soon at the takeout counter?" trying to psych me out? luckily, I actually remember every moment... so I knew it wasn't true... funny... this is gonna stick around for a long time... I just know it...
~it's a lesson, don't drink with people around
I have a feeling that the entry is organized really poorly... and don't know if anyone will understand it (me included)... maybe I was pretty drunk... so my thoughts are coming out random and unorganized... who knows... I wish I brought a camera... but oh well...
right now, my hands are freezing... why is it so cold?
I hate exams... especially when it's scheduled second to last day in the exam period.
Plenty of room to procrastinate! And without the continuous practice, I've forgotten most of it... Plus, because the exam date is so late, I haven't done much till five days ago... so, a whole week of slacking off...
And the last 4 texts are freakin hard... I have no vocab list and many of the words are not in the index... and they're long... so the visiting profs didn't go through the whole thing, plus and they didn't teach everything we need to know even for the portion that they talked about... so, inadequate knowledge of a fraction of the portion of the text that we'd be tested on... how will I be able to get the A+ that I need? GAH!!!
Well... finally got thru yet another chin lit test, and I really am getting the hang of it... if I didn't make any dumb mistakes, I should be getting 100%!! As for my other classes, I sort of get the 聰明人和傻子和奴才 article... but I'm kinda worried for that test on Monday... my mandarin is not too good yet. As for my art 360, it's starting to get interesting now... no more worries about tests, and now it's hands on! And art 305... meh, but I got friends in that class, so it'll be okay. Chin cinema should be good though... no more take-home midterm, and it has become a group activity... I like that.
So... usually I get about forty deliveries a Thursday night...
guess how many there were today?
Seventy!!!
What the hell is wrong with people today? I mean, the minute I get there, there's like five orders that come in right away! Then it was just a continuous stream of orders... not to mention a lot of people coming in to order takeout as well. I had to stop orders from coming. And what could get worse? Well, normally I go on my break at around 7:00ish... well, today I didn't get a chance till almost 8:30... and I actually only had ~seven minutes to eat dinner. Luckily I had some fries before... or I would be starving to death by that time, and probably have a huge stomach ache. Well, now to go and study for my Chin lit class... which I have a feeling I'm gonna fail it.
and I've finally had one full week of school. and I'm glad that I got into art 305... just got an email today saying I was moved from waiting list to registered status! so of course, I dropped art 301... I feel so bad, because Nan is in the class, and she wanted me to stay, to keep her company probably, but I will definitely visit her once in a while. plus, I got her a spongebob key chain already... she'll be happy for that.
I also did Chin 310A quiz today... and it was easier than I thought. If it stays like this for the whole year, then I should be fine.
Chin 349A should be lots of fun, since I understand what the teacher is saying 95% of the time... I don't dare say 100%... because there are always words I don't know. plus, I'll finally learn mandarin, and how to read and write.
as for Chin 325, it should be fine, since we watch movies, and the have take home mid-term and final... I'm just worried that he would be a hard marker, but he doesn't seem like one... but he seems like one of those "proper" profs... let's hope he's an easy marker...
the class I'm really worried about is art 360 actually... with all that new stuff for audio and video... as well as the interactive... I hope I'll do okay.
